The Venue

The Now

The foundry section was the final stage of the property renovation. The original foundry building at the rear was restored in 2017/18 with many of the original features retained and now operates as “Studio 99 Art & Whisky” which was the dream Janelle had when she first purchased the property in 1999. It was always her intention to develop the studio into a small niche co-operative gallery that she can share with fellow artisans. In 2017 the foundry section (now the Studio) which was in a very dilapidated state was renovated leaving many of the old features to now enjoy.

In 2019 Janelle was having a casual conversation with one of the close associates- Vicki Clarke about having the gallery. Vicki had recently sold Tick Tax Accounting which she had started up in the port some 20 years ago with her partner Graham (Chook) Wilson and was looking for something to do. A few drinks later and the idea of Studio 99 Art & Whisky came into fruition. Vicki and Graham had always been passionate about the Whisky and Janelle – the Art – and that was the beginning of their journey to follow their individual passions

Brief History

In 1998 the rundown property at 99 Lipson Street was purchased by Janelle Gaudet. Since 1999, Port Stationery has occupied the ground floor of the front brick and bluestone structure. The extensive renovation to the upper floor of the main building including a new external stairwell structure was a slow project and in 2016 the upstairs apartment was completed.

In 1895 James Ramsay McColl located his business hardware and brass foundry business at 99 Lipson Street Port Adelaide where it was operated by his family as a Coppersmith/Hardware business until 1998 when it was sold to Janelle Gaudet. During this time he was responsible for manufacturing, plumbing and pipe work in this building for many earlier projects in South Australia such as the boilers for the Parkside Asylum 1902 and pipework for the water supply to Broken Hill
